Yamaha UB-DXR8
Yamaha UB-DXR8: orientation, hardware and bracket checks
Prepare a U-bracket for a Yamaha DXR8: check cabinet orientation, mounting parts and what to inspect before adjusting the angle.
Model and scope
This guide covers the UB-DXR8 with DXR8 under Yamaha UB-DXR manual WZ17740, edition A0. For another cabinet or revision, check its specific documentation. The bracket alone does not establish the capacity of a wall, ceiling or structure; a qualified installer must assess that support.
Prepare the assembly
Before taking the kit to site, separate the bracket, connection hardware and safety system. Compare them with the manual drawings. Have the cabinet model, intended orientation and fixing-surface details ready; a missing part is not solved by using a similar-looking screw.
Mounting questions
Does UB-DXR8 fit any eight-inch speaker?
No. Yamaha identifies it as a bracket for DXR8. Driver diameter does not define fixing centres, threads or weight distribution. Check the full cabinet model before requesting the accessory.
For a cabinet with a different name or revision, find the specified bracket in its own manual. Holes that appear to line up do not establish compatibility; do not modify the bracket to make it fit.
VXS10S/VXS10ST manual VED2080 E0 also specifies UB-DXR8 for ceiling installation of that subwoofer, not wall installation. That assembly uses 14 mm spacers and hex bolts with washers supplied with the subwoofer. Follow the VXS procedure; the DXR8 orientation and hardware instructions in this guide do not transfer to the subwoofer.
Can I change from vertical to horizontal installation just by turning the cabinet?
Not while simply keeping the same attachment points. For vertical installation, the UB-DXR8 manual uses the DXR8 side holes. Horizontal installation uses the bottom plate and the centre hole in the top handle. Compare the complete arrangement with the drawings on pages 2 and 3.
The warning is specific: when the arms attach to the top and bottom of the cabinet, do not install the cabinet vertically, because its weight may bend the bracket. Review the assembly before mounting it in another orientation; do not rotate an already loaded installation as a workaround.
What should I check when the bracket arrives with loose hardware?
Sort the parts by function. The manual specifies M5×10 screws for joining the two L-shaped parts, M5×16 for the bottom plate and M8×25 bolts with washers for attaching the cabinet. Check the rubber spacers and the parts required for the selected orientation too. Do not swap screws merely because they enter a thread.
The kit does not resolve the wall or ceiling fixings. Yamaha requires a surface that supports both cabinet and bracket, plus a suitably rated safety wire. The installer must select anchors for the actual structure; do not rely on drywall or an acoustic tile as the load-bearing support.
How do I correct the angle if the speaker is aimed incorrectly?
With the cabinet safely supported by the installation personnel, loosen the relevant fixing first, adjust and secure it again. Yamaha says not to force movement with the screw tightened. Do not use the cabinet as a lever against the bracket.
If the assembly will not hold its angle, or you find deformation, wear or corrosion, stop adjusting and have it inspected. Repeatedly tightening harder does not identify the cause. Periodic inspection is still required even if the installation felt secure on day one.
Checks before installation
| Situation | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Different cabinet | Model and accessory specified by Yamaha | Confirm compatibility before installation. |
| Orientation change | Side points or bottom plate/top handle | Follow the correct drawing, not just a cabinet rotation. |
| Angle will not hold | Fixings and bracket condition | Inspect the assembly rather than forcing the fasteners. |
