MARJCC theater: fixed battens, monitors, projection and video

The Alan and Diane Lieberman Performing Arts Theatre is operated by the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center (MARJCC) at 18900 NE 25th Avenue. The address uses North Miami Beach, FL 33180; Miami-Dade’s address record identifies an unincorporated area. Confirm the competent authority for each intervention and the exact theater included in the contract.

Define the theater and usable space before drawing the setup

The rental page advertises 221 seats and accommodates shows, concerts, filming and other events. The event plan and capacity must account for cameras, control, accessibility and egress. Do not transfer conditions from Katz Auditorium, the gymnasium, plaza or meeting rooms on the same campus.

The 2021 packet describes a 47 × 27 ft stage with a 30 ft wide and 20 ft high proscenium opening. Overlay PA, monitors, LED and scenery on the plan; check passage, sightlines and cyclorama access. Confirm level changes and actual stage height before selecting ramps or supports.

Fixed battens: do not assume LED or motor capacity

The packet describes catwalks above house and stage and two fixed, dead hung battens for lighting fixtures. Those two battens have no power or data connections. The document gives no allowable load for your screen or a motor: request review of points, total weights and distribution before including them in the setup.

Do not plan handling as if a fly system were available. If a fixture is to be placed on a fixed batten, agree work access, attachments, approved cable routing and crew with the theater. If the point or route is not accepted, relocate the equipment and submit the revised plan.

A ground-supported screen also requires review of bases, reactions, ballast, surface protection and circulation. Changing from suspension to ground support does not itself resolve structural acceptance.

Separate DMX patch from electrical supply

The 2021 sheet lists ETC Sensor 3 with 96 circuits: 1–92 on catwalks and 93–96 at stage sides. It states 110 V and Stage Pin connectors. Do not turn that count into free power: request circuit and module identification, existing loads and accepted supply for each device. The packet prohibits running extension cords in-house; agree the accepted technical route before adding equipment.

Control is listed as ETC ION with a 40-channel wing and two 512-channel DMX universes. Prepare the patch with each fixture’s universe, address and mode and compare it with the accepted house file. A data connector does not confirm that a universe is assigned.

Before changing patch or focus, save the current configuration with the authorized operator. Test each fixture under controlled conditions and observe whether the intended destination responds. If another fixture responds, stop the sequence and check universe, address and mode; restore the previous configuration where appropriate. Do not specify menus or electrical connections without identifying model, version and modules.

QL5, monitors and operating crew

The packet lists Yamaha QL5 and up to four monitor mixes. Prepare an input list and monitor matrix: source, mix, destination and responsible operator. Four published mixes describe the theater service, not a general QL5 limit or four sends confirmed for your event.

Arrange a check at each destination with a low starting level and no audience present. Verify that each signal reaches the intended monitor without feeding another destination by mistake. If mixes are insufficient, agree priorities or additional equipment and crew; do not combine outputs to solve it.

The 2021 document requires sound, lighting and stage operators. More than three microphones or a need for monitors requires a sound assistant for at least four hours; plot changes or refocusing require a lighting assistant. Confirm current terms, schedules and charges. The packet requires theater technicians even when the renter brings its own crew.

Front screen, cyclorama and recording are separate paths

The 2021 inventory describes a Crestron interface, Christie M Series 14k and front screen, plus four Eiki 5k projectors creating one 20 × 28 ft image on the cyclorama, controlled from a booth computer. Do not assume one equivalent input serves every surface. Request exact model, routing, format and playback template.

Video lists Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K, Blackmagic Studio Camera, ATEM Television Studio HD and HyperDeck Studio Mini. Those names do not confirm the entire path’s format. Agree camera signal, switching, recording and delivery before defining files or promising a broadcast.

Loading without a dock and campus access

The packet describes two roll-up doors 8 ft high, one behind the scenery shop and one at the back of the stage, with no loading dock. Request current clear width and height, route, slopes and unloading method. A published eight-foot height does not guarantee passage for a package that tall.

Submit case and equipment dimensions and weights, vehicle and arrival/removal times. Campus policies require identification and access checks; agree event crew credentials and which vehicles may remain. A room reservation does not authorize overnight parking or storage.

Before dispatch, compare packages with the accepted route. If they do not fit, change packaging or split assemblies within manufacturer limits and revise the sequence. Do not improvise ramps or use audience routes as an alternative without acceptance.

Effects, recording, insurance and project revisions

The historical rate sheet lists a smoke machine but does not authorize a specific effect. Submit equipment, fluid, position and sequence for review of detection, fire protection and applicable permits. Keep lasers or pyrotechnics pending until conditions and responsible parties are identified.

Current policy requires approval for professional/commercial photography or video on campus. The camera inventory grants no recording or broadcast rights. Separate venue authorization, content rights and contractual conditions.

The 2021 packet mentions insurance of USD 1000000 per occurrence and USD 2000000 aggregate, plus endorsements. Request current requirements and acceptance of the certificate and event coverage. Historical rates, deposits, taxes and deadlines do not replace a current quote and contract.

Preparation worksheet: not a reservation, permit, calculation or approval. If equipment, weights, routes, effects or schedule change, submit a revised version and retain acceptances with their scope.

Frequently asked questions

Can I suspend LED from the two fixed battens?

Not without review. The packet describes them for fixtures and publishes no capacity for your LED. Submit complete weight, points and distribution and request theater acceptance. Without it, change the proposal and also review supports for any ground-based alternative.

Do the 96 circuits give me free power for my equipment?

No. Identify circuit, module, existing load and accepted supply with the electrical lead. The lighting inventory does not confirm available power or equipment compatibility. Keep anything without an accepted assignment disconnected.

What if I need more than four monitor mixes?

Submit the monitor matrix with destinations and priorities. Confirm which part the house system provides and what additional equipment, connections and crew are accepted. Four mixes is the packet reference, not a general QL5 console limit.

Are the four Eiki projectors used as independent screens?

The packet describes one combined image on the cyclorama. Request the current configuration and content template before producing files. Test a pattern on the intended surface; if it appears elsewhere or is framed incorrectly, review routing and geometry with the operator.

Does a camera labeled 4K guarantee 4K recording or streaming?

No. Agree and check format at camera, switcher, recorder and delivery, with the actual models and versions. Check a recorded file and the transmission destination; do not infer the final format from a camera name.

Do four microphones or monitors change the technical crew?

The 2021 reference requires a sound assistant when more than three microphones are used or monitors are needed, for at least four hours. Request current crew and schedule confirmation before finalizing costs; bringing your own technicians does not remove the theater supervision described in that document.

Will an 8 ft case fit through the published doors?

Do not assume so. Request clear dimensions, route and unloading method for the actual package, including wheels and packaging. If accepted clearance is insufficient, split or repack within allowed limits and revise the sequence before sending equipment.

The 2021 PDF is a historical reference: confirm its revision, inventory, crew and contract for your date. The current page advertises rental and mentions a packet without confirming that this file is the current version. Listed dimensions and equipment assign no loads, power, rights or permits.
