Colorado Convention Center Denver: rigging, power and freight access
Colorado Convention Center is at 700 14th Street, Denver, Colorado. Its Event Planning Guide separates included power, additional services and space-specific freight rules.
What power is included in a room?
Page 12 lists two 20 A AV circuits in each meeting room, ballroom or staff office and one 50 A circuit in general-session spaces. That section does not specify voltage, connector or dedicated status: confirm with the Event Manager and Exhibitor Services. Exhibit halls, computer labs, registration and other additional power require separate orders. Do not connect if the order does not match phases, current and operating hours.
Can my contractor rig equipment?
All ceiling rigging, including both ballrooms, requires advance Facility Management approval. Labor falls under the designated provider’s jurisdiction through the General Service Contractor. Submit CAD, points, equipment/cable weights, reactions and trim. The general guide does not establish beam or point WLL here: obtain the room appendix before motor selection. Moving rooms requires review of the new conditions.
Can cases use the lobby and layouts be resolved during load-in?
No. Lobbies allow only hand-carried freight; carts, dollies and flatbeds must use docks. The venue does not receive freight directly from clients: arrange a GSC or approved carrier within the contracted period. Confirm door, route, elevator, wheel loads and floor conditions before dispatch.
Floorplans go for Denver Fire Department approval before exhibit space is sold. This includes halls, general-session ballrooms and public event areas. Show actual staging, LED, supports and egress. Request effect-specific conditions and permits for lasers, haze or pyrotechnics: layout acceptance does not establish effect authorization.
Frequently asked questions
Are six months and 30 days the same deadline?
No. Rigging and Hanging Information requests truss/motor plans six months ahead; plans not received 30 days before first move-in incur a listed USD 500 review fee plus possible SER costs. Structural Engineer of Record review may take two weeks or more. Confirm current revision and quote; payment does not replace Technical Services/Operations approval.
Does carpet protection permit any cart or lift?
No. Page 15 requires protection for freight/material handling and also restricts wheeled equipment on carpet. Obtain acceptance of route and equipment; plywood or plastic neither replaces that agreement nor increases structural capacity.
