HDBaseT and category-cable extenders for stage confidence

Select a category-cable link by its transmitter and receiver. Define protocol, format and power before connecting the stage monitor.

Conceptual signal flow

HDMI output assigned to confidence → Compatible TX: video to HDBaseT or another identified protocol → Point-to-point link for the chosen system → Compatible RX → monitor HDMI input

Show scenario: a monitor across the room from FOH

When the monitor accepts HDMI but the route needs extension, place TX at the output and RX at the display. Kramer TP-580T/TP-580R is a documented example of HDMI to HDBaseT and back. Do not infer another revision’s capabilities from the family name.

Resolve compatibility first

Resolve compatibility first
ProtocolHDBaseT and other RJ45 transports are not interchangeable because their plugs match. Do not connect a signal port to a network switch unless the manufacturer documents that use.
FormatCompare resolution, frame rate, chroma sampling, bit depth, audio and HDCP at both ends. HDBaseT technology capabilities are not universal extender specifications.
PowerIdentify supplies and any explicitly supported PoC/PoH arrangement, its direction and requirements. Do not assume PoE.
Other servicesUSB, Ethernet, IR and RS-232 need documented functions and ports. A video link does not prove presenter control support.

Proposed setup and test

  1. Photograph TX/RX labels, revisions and power requirements. Save source and monitor settings.
  2. Test source and monitor directly, then add the pair using a compatible test link.
  3. Move to the real route and compare picture, audio and link status. Check fine text and motion at the final format.
  4. Rehearse startup and recovery according to the manual; identify an alternate path for a critical confidence feed.

Separate transport from content

An extender can carry an output already prepared for notes, but it does not create that view. If program appears instead of notes, check output content before changing the link.

Precautions for the documented pair

The cited Kramer manual limits this pair to indoor use and connection to indoor equipment. Use its supplied adapter and do not open the unit; there are no operator-serviceable parts. Follow the exact revision’s ventilation, power and mounting requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix transmitter and receiver brands?

Verify certified compatibility and the common supported feature set. Check power and both manuals as well; sharing the HDBaseT name is not enough.

Why is the link up with no picture?

Record HDMI detection, link state and received format. First try a format supported by the complete system; a link indicator does not prove monitor compatibility.

What distance can I promise?

Use the documented combination of TX/RX, format and cable after reviewing the complete route. No single distance applies to every signal.
