MadMapper: prepare projection surfaces and masks
Projection onto separate pieces requires deciding which content region belongs to each surface and which areas stay excluded. A drawing helps prepare the project; final framing must be compared with the actual projector and surfaces.
Version reference and scope
Documented reference: MadMapper 6.1.1, announced by the manufacturer April 8, 2026 on its official forum; MadMapper 6 manual. Record installed version, macOS or Windows, GPU, driver, license, connections and projectors. Compare that reference with your project version before making changes.
This preparation covers projected video. Preserve originals and a project copy with approved media. Record physical dimensions, content resolution and planned projector position; a reference photo does not determine the lens.
Separate content cropping from projected shape
Video Surfaces represent virtual surfaces in the setup. The manufacturer documents per-surface masks. Identify each piece and its content source before deciding what to hide.
Path: media → content selection → surface and mask → Video Output and Destination → projector → physical piece. Name each stage and compare the selected destination with the real receiver.
Three questions before correcting the mapping
Is the wrong content region cropped? Compare the file region assigned to the surface with the approved design. Use a labeled image to distinguish content framing from physical position.
Does a mask hide another piece? Record its owning surface and isolate that mask in the test copy. Compare light and dark areas before inverting it or changing its shape.
Does the working view match but the physical piece does not? Check destination, resolution and output geometry, then observe projector focus and position. Change one stage at a time; deforming content cannot fix an unsuitable optical position.
Proposed scenario: three pieces sharing one animation
Propose three identified surfaces using different regions of a common animation, with masks for spaces between pieces. Request a dimensioned drawing and a reference for each region. Prepare frames with numbers, borders, circles and grays to inspect continuity and cropping.
In the proposed rehearsal, compare each piece separately, then the complete moving image. Save project, file version, destination, observations and outstanding checks. If the physical position changes, review the mapping before use. Check optical alignment on the actual pieces before completing the adjustment.
