Phoenix Convention Center: motors-up rigging, drawings and power
Phoenix Convention Center is at 100 N Third Street, Phoenix, Arizona. AV Concepts’ policy distinguishes North, West and South Ballroom and individual exhibit halls.
How early must rigging be submitted?
The policy requests an application and drawing three months before the lease period. Final heavy/theatrical drawings within 21 days may incur charges; all diagrams must be approved at least three business days before load-in. That final milestone is not the normal submission deadline.
Use the current DWG/VWX shell and show manufacturer, model, weight, quantity, points, reactions, total loads, cable picks and trim. Altered drawings require resubmission. AV Concepts operates motor controllers; do not add weight after its riggers leave. Municipal resolution S-51900 and current pages distinguish non-exclusive AV from exclusive rigging and in-house AV interfaces.
Does a hall’s 2,500 lb rating apply everywhere?
No. The policy lists 2,500 lb points in halls A–E and 1–6; North Ballroom allows 2,500 lb vertical loads without bridling. West Ballroom has 5,000, 2,000 and 300 lb points according to CAD. Halls F–G have lower limits: 250 lb near the lower-chord panel point, conditionally 300 lb if adjacent panel points are unloaded, with a 6,000 lb maximum per E–W truss. Verify member, location and adjacent loads first.
Airwall tracks allow 200 lb per point, minimum 4 ft separation, approved hangers and vertical dead hangs only, without motors or side loads. Supported structures over 20 ft need tethering. These roof values do not establish floor capacity: submit supports, wheels, ballast and route.
Who supplies power and how are effects declared?
The venue page assigns exhibit electrical, AV and production power, water and compressed air exclusively to Commonwealth. Separate power and rigging orders and confirm voltage, phases, connector and hours. Carpeted lift use requires 6 mil Visqueen; wheel covers do not replace it.
Request Phoenix Fire conditions for identified laser, haze or pyrotechnic equipment, fluid, emission and rehearsals. Rigging policy does not establish an effect permit. Without acceptance, retain no-emission operation; room or load changes require renewed drawing review.
Frequently asked questions
Will the venue receive equipment before load-in?
The Exhibit page states it does not accept shipments or packages on clients’ behalf. Follow the exhibitor kit or coordinate UPS service; docks are for assigned loading/unloading periods and positions, not parking.
