Rosen Centre: haze, exit-route cabling and floor loads

At Rosen Centre, 9840 International Drive, unincorporated Orange County, the room determines whether haze can even be submitted for review. Prepare the plan before choosing cable routes or loading equipment.

Which plan and deadlines need preparation?

Production & Exhibit Rules requests Fire Marshal submission 30 days ahead; the approved CAD and loading form reach the hotel 14 days ahead. Fire Watch has 10 days’ notice and a 4-hour minimum. These are separate milestones, not interchangeable approvals. Identify room, stage, stairs, exits and effect, and confirm the current version and scope before contracting. For suspension, the kit assigns structural attachments to Encore but publishes no WLL per point.

EffectsConfetti prohibited; room-specific haze limitsDo not disable detection or replace Fire Marshal review with organizer approval.

Can a cable ramp cross an exit route?

The rules require production cables to be flown above exit passageways and prohibit bumblebee-style ramps there. Do not improvise a floor crossing: submit the route and its suspensions for approval. Approved floor cabling must be secured as required by the hotel. Encore is identified as exclusive electrical contractor, including extension-cord supply; access to installed sound is also reserved and may incur patch charges.

Does 500 psf allow a lift or LED support legs?

The document lists 500 psf uniform load for ballroom and service-corridor slabs, but requires case-specific evaluation of wheel and concentrated loads. Submit reactions, wheels, supports and route; do not convert that figure into capacity per leg. It requires battery-powered equipment and carpet protection, including plywood over Poly-Tak or Visqueen when using forklifts in ballrooms. Agree arrival and departure inspections. Re-review changes to supports, cables or room; do not run haze without acceptance and retain the effect-free version.

How should Orange County submissions be coordinated with hotel deadlines?

The Orange County Fire Rescue Trade Shows & Conventions application, revised October 1, 2026, requests 21 days’ notice. That county deadline does not shorten the 30 days requested for Fire Marshal submission in the published hotel rules. Build a schedule identifying both recipients, setup, opening and each layout change; confirm which revision each must receive.

The form lists USD 110 for the permit, USD 286 for an after-hours inspection and USD 284 for expedited review when the application misses the deadline. The checklist places inspection one hour before the event and ordinary hours at 7:00 to 17:30. These county charges belong to that revision and are separate from hotel, rigging and labor charges; confirm the applicable amount before payment. Payment or a file number does not establish approval.

Where a Fire Watch is required, the letter on venue letterhead must cover 30 minutes before through 30 minutes after the show. The checklist sets a 4-hour minimum, USD 268 for those first 4 hours and USD 69 per additional hour or half-hour fraction. Coordinate rehearsal needs with the hotel and OCFR too. Delayed opening can move the coverage end: confirm an extension before using the effect and retain the no-haze version until accepted. Do not operate detectors or the fire-alarm panel.

Frequently asked questions

Can Signature use haze with a Fire Watch?

The published rules do not permit it in Signature. A Fire Watch does not transfer the ballroom condition to that room.

Does 500 psf mean capacity per wheel?

No. Uniform load and a concentrated reaction are different checks; the document requires individual wheel-load evaluation.

Can a 100 lb sign remain on a dead hang?

The kit switches to chain motors above 100 lb or 10 ft length, but those thresholds do not establish point, hardware or approval for lower weights.

Does the county’s 21-day deadline replace Rosen Centre’s 30 days?

No. These are separate submissions. Schedule delivery to meet the hotel deadline and county application requirements; changes to room, effect or timing require checking which revision and coverage must be updated.
