Videohub Mini 4x2 12G: select sources and test Clean Switch for each output

To change a source without rewiring the rack, first identify which output reaches the destination and which input carries A or B. This guide covers the Videohub Mini 4x2 12G: four rear inputs, two routing outputs and connections with different functions. After the change, check image and audio at the receiver that will be used for the event.

Two routing needs with different scopes

Identify the Videohub Mini model and test its routes before incorporating it into the system.

The account describes glitches in other rooms but does not confirm equipment purchased or a tested solution. The Mini 4x2 does not have the capacity requested for that setup: here we examine a small signal path without presenting it as a replacement for the X20.

Define whether you need to change a connection, make a program transition or recover from a fault. Each task needs a test; a routing matrix’s functions are not equivalent to a switcher’s.

Select the destination before pressing the source

The description on page 9 of the Videohub manual, May 2025 covers cut bus for the Mini 12G family: press the destination’s numbered out button, then the source’s in button. The route changes in that second step. The proposed example is to connect A and B to identified inputs and check an off-air output before using it live.

Record the initial route and follow the cable to the receiver. After selecting B, check an identifiable image and the expected audio at that destination. To return to A, repeat out and in with the agreed numbers. The Mini procedure does not add a confirmation Take like the one described for full-width Videohub 12G units.

To lock the route, page 17 instructs you to hold the output button until it lights blue. To unlock it, hold it until it turns white. Record who authorized changing a protected destination; if the button is blue, check that lock before attributing the failure to change to an SDI problem.

The official specifications use SDI Auto Switching to describe detection of each input’s signal rate, in the 4x2 12G section. That term does not document automatic switching from A to B on failure. If you need that behavior, compare the ALT SDI IN help and define how a fault is detected and who initiates the change.

Front input, loop outputs and webcam follow different paths

On the 4x2 12G, connecting video to the front SDI replaces rear input 4 for routing. Select that source with in 4. The explanation on pages 15–16 states that disconnecting the front source restores the rear input; it does not add a fifth selectable input.

The note on page 16 keeps loop outputs tied to their corresponding rear inputs, even with a front source connected. The USB-C webcam, however, takes the highest-numbered input: input 4 on this model, also replaced by the front input. That is why a recording from loop 4 and another from the webcam may receive different content without the matrix having failed.

Label routing outputs and loop outputs separately. If a receiver does not change when in is pressed, check which connector its cable reaches. When adding a front source, review the destinations using input 4 and the webcam before considering the change complete.

Enable Clean Switch only for the intended destinations

The manual, pages 17 and 27, configures Clean Switch on Mini 12G outputs. In Videohub Setup, identify the unit, open Outputs and check the box beside each output label. all on and all off affect every output; use the individual control if only one destination needs the change.

Save the initial configuration. The manufacturer’s example uses one output with Clean Switch for a monitor and another without Clean Switch for HyperDeck, retaining the signal without frame adjustments on the latter. It illustrates functions by destination, rather than a single recommendation for every recording or live production.

To identify sources and receivers, pages 25–26 allow label editing and saving with save, as well as save label set and load label set. Keep the connection map with the label set: a saved name does not prove which signal the output is receiving at that moment.

Reference on the 4x2 and comparison with the direct output

The Mini 4x2 12G specifications list Reference Inputs and Reference Outputs as None. Page 17 of the manual distinguishes locking to input 1 from the reference option on the 6x2 and 8x4 models. For the 4x2, record the source and format of input 1; do not follow an external REF procedure for the larger models.

Clean Switch can adjust frames. The official Each Video Output Has Its Own Clean Switch section explains that resynchronization can add or remove frames. We suggest comparing destinations with a shared visual reference and reviewing their files or returns; we have not measured delay or continuity for this combination yet.

Start with sources in the same format to isolate the routing change. Then test any format change planned for the event separately. The specifications allow different SDI rates at the inputs; that does not turn format detection into a transition test or determine what each receiver will accept.

If one output looks stable and another glitches or lags, compare their Clean Switch settings and the path to each receiver. Save evidence before changing several settings.

Routing worksheet and final check for each destination

Complete the blank Videohub Mini 4x2 12G worksheet. It includes the initial route, front source, loop, webcam, lock, Clean Switch, input 1 and result at each receiver. Restore or document the agreed state after the test.

Add that map to the event recording map and the continuity plan. To review input count, destinations and processing, GLMedia can work from the video processing and distribution request with sources and outstanding tests identified.

Frequently asked questions

How do I switch from A to B on a Videohub Mini 4x2 12G output?

Press out for the destination and then in for B. The Mini changes the route when in is pressed. Confirm image and voice at the selected receiver; to return to A, repeat the selection with its numbers. Record the initial route before using the panel.

Why does a loop output not change when I select another source?

Loop outputs follow their corresponding rear inputs, according to the note on page 16. The panel changes routing outputs. Follow the receiver’s cable and check whether it is connected to a loop or SDI OUT 1/2 before changing the selection.

Does the front SDI add a fifth input to the Mini 4x2 12G?

It replaces rear input 4 for routing and webcam; select it with in 4. Loop 4 continues receiving the rear input. Identify both contents during the test and check the return of input 4 when disconnecting the front source.

What does a blue-lit output mean on Videohub Mini?

The manual uses blue for a locked route. Once the change is agreed, hold the output button until it turns white to unlock it. Then select the destination and source and check the receiver; do not assume a cable fault just because the route did not change.

Where do I enable Clean Switch for just one Mini 4x2 output?

In Videohub Setup, open Outputs and use the box beside the identified output. Save the initial state and check the result at that destination. all on and all off affect all outputs, so review the rest of the map before using them.

Can I connect an external reference to the Videohub Mini 4x2 12G?

That model’s specifications state it has no reference input or output. The manual distinguishes input 1 from the REF option for Mini 6x2 and 8x4. Identify input 1 and test its path; do not apply a connection from the larger models to the 4x2.

Does an output with Clean Switch preserve frames in the same way as a direct output?

The manufacturer explains that resynchronization can add or remove frames; the manual shows a direct output without those adjustments. Compare a sample from the destination needing stable changes with one from the destination needing signal preservation, and agree on use based on observations. We have not measured a delay for this setup.

Does SDI Auto Switching mean the Mini switches automatically from A to B?

In the specifications, that term describes SDI rate detection at each input. The panel documents destination and source selection, not an automatic backup decision. Define how to detect the fault, who initiates the change and what each output should receive; then rehearse that procedure.
