Questions and troubleshooting

My USB works on another player, but the XDJ-AZ does not show its playlists. How do I check OneLibrary and the export?

Check which library is present on the USB drive. The XDJ-AZ uses OneLibrary, previously called Device Library Plus. A playlist appearing on another player does not establish that it exists in that library. Drive format and library format are separate checks.

  1. Before converting or formatting, back up audio files, playlists and histories from both the USB drive and rekordbox. Note the exact rekordbox and XDJ-AZ firmware versions. The linked export guide requires 7.2.12 or later; prepare and test any update before the event, not during a performance.
  2. In rekordbox for PC/Mac, open Devices → your USB → OneLibrary. Compare its playlists and All Tracks with Device Library and the collection you intend to take. If content is missing only from OneLibrary, follow the conversion procedure. If audio files are missing, fix the export first. A folder bearing a playlist name does not prove its tracks were copied.
  3. Convert from Device Library is in the OneLibrary context menu. Use it when Device Library contains the material you want to transfer, after preserving anything that exists only in OneLibrary. The official FAQ warns that conversion overwrites that library and can remove its unique playlists and histories. If both libraries differ and you need to retain them, read the synchronization procedure before confirming.
  4. To prepare another USB drive, use Export Mode → Export Playlist as described in the guide, then recheck OneLibrary. On the XDJ-AZ, choose the drive with SOURCE, find the playlist and load a known track into a deck to test playback and cues. If the drive does not appear at all, check a direct connection and its format: this model supports FAT16, FAT32, exFAT and HFS+, but not NTFS. USB hubs are unsupported and extension cables are not recommended.
  5. For E-8302, check whether the file is damaged or readable on another compatible player. E-8304/E-8305 indicates an unsupported format. Keep the exact error and file for comparison; do not reformat your only USB drive as the first troubleshooting step. Use USB STOP and wait until its indicator stops flashing before removing the drive.
I recorded a set with XDJ-AZ MASTER REC, but cannot find the WAV on my Mac. Where is it?

Look on the USB drive selected for recording, inside ALPHATHETA REC. The unit’s MASTER REC does not automatically save to the computer’s rekordbox recording folder. AlphaTheta specifies 44.1 kHz/16-bit WAV files named RECxxx.WAV; the manual explains how to select the device and stop recording.

According to AlphaTheta, MASTER LEVEL and MASTER EQ do not affect the recording. Turning down the feed to the PA does not, by itself, turn down the recorded file.

  1. Before the show, connect the recording USB and open MIXER SETTINGS. Select Recording Device and tap Rec. Make a short recording using material you own or are authorized to record, checking the recording status. Tap Rec again to stop and confirm that its light goes out.
  2. Use USB STOP until the indicator stops flashing, then remove the drive and open it on the computer. Find ALPHATHETA REC and check the RECxxx.WAV file size, duration, beginning and end. The XDJ-AZ has no clock and does not store recording date/time; do not rely solely on the file date to identify a take.
  3. If the file is missing, make sure you are checking the drive chosen under Recording Device, that it had free space and that recording started and stopped. The manual states that recording is unavailable with Bluetooth selected as the input. Note any error and when it occurred. Being able to read music from a USB drive does not prove recording could write to it.
  4. Copy the WAV and verify the copy before reusing the drive. Track Mark splits the file without stopping recording, so check all segments if you used it. AlphaTheta also specifies automatic splitting every three hours, a limit of 999 files and approximately 90 minutes per free GB. These figures do not establish how much space or recording time remains on your drive.
The XDJ-AZ plays through MASTER, but I cannot hear PHONES. What should I check in CUE, MIX and LEVEL?

Trace the headphone path with a known-working source and headphones. CUE selects the channel, MIX blends that cue with master, and LEVEL controls PHONES. LINK CUE has a different purpose: previewing tracks from the list with Touch Preview. Enabling it does not replace the CUE selection for a loaded channel.

  1. Turn LEVEL down before connecting. Use one PHONES socket—stereo 1/4-inch or stereo 3.5 mm—with the correct, fully inserted plug and adapter. AlphaTheta warns that using both sockets at once can reduce sound quality or level.
  2. Load a known USB track, start playback and check the channel meter. It shows the level before the channel fader. If there is no reading, check loading, playback and TRIM before continuing with PHONES. Note whether MASTER has audio, since that helps isolate the fault.
  3. Press CUE on the channel you want to hear, turn MIX toward CUE and raise LEVEL gradually. Then compare MIX toward MASTER with a signal actually reaching master. Note which position delivers audio; do not raise the PA to troubleshoot headphone cue.
  4. Check the selected mode in MIXER SETTINGS → Headphones Stereo / Mono Split. For a stereo listening test, choose Stereo and repeat with the same material. If the problem occurs only when touching a browser waveform, check LINK CUE and LINK Preview Volume. That is the separate Touch Preview path described on page 58.
  5. Test the same headphones on another device, then a known-working pair on one PHONES socket at a time, lowering LEVEL before changing connections. Note the source, socket and result. If the fault remains after checking the path, contact the supplier or authorized service. Describe the symptom without assuming a failed component, and prepare any update before the event.

Isolate the fault by stage

Each row checks a different stage. Use the worksheet to record results from the equipment you will take to the event.

Pre-event test

The worksheet separates USB playback, recording and headphone cue. A successful result in one stage does not validate the other two.

Repeat the test from the saved configuration and retain the library and audio backups you have verified.

Technical documentation

Confirm the XDJ-AZ package and availability for your event date.

Check the installed firmware, rekordbox version and USB drives before using these procedures. The 7.2.12 guide defines its own scope; it does not establish a universal minimum version for every use of the XDJ-AZ.

Back up libraries and audio before converting or formatting a USB drive. Test playback, recording and PHONES off program with the versions and media you will use.
