Questions and troubleshooting
With Y12 and D80, enabling CUT makes the upper mids unpleasant: should I disable it?
Before disabling it, check how the subwoofers combine with the tops. CUT reduces Y12 bass level for use with applicable d&b subwoofers. The published response changes from 54 Hz–19 kHz to 100 Hz–19 kHz, at −5 dB; that change can expose the upper mids more if the system loses balance.
CPL, HFC and EQ have different functions. HFC compensates for treble lost through air absorption in Line/Arc, selectively by distance and conditions; do not apply it to every area to address a local balance difference.
- Record subwoofer model, inputs and destinations, Y12 Line/Arc, CUT, CPL, HFC, levels, delay and polarity. Choose a near, transition and far position to compare the same musical passage or voice.
- Listen to TOP and SUB separately, then together, at an agreed test level. If the subwoofer does not respond, trace its signal path. If both work but their sum loses bass in one area, investigate position and alignment before compensating with EQ.
- Once the path is checked, compare CUT according to the system design and change one function at a time. Record the position and level where the problem occurs. If it persists, preserve configuration and results to inspect the actual subwoofer and measure the combined response before choosing a correction.
What to record when Y12 balance changes with CUT
| Check | Record | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| TOP and SUB separately | Signal, destination and response of each section | If a section is missing, trace its path |
| TOP and SUB together | Bass change by position | If summation changes, check position and alignment |
| Amplifier functions | Y12 Line/Arc, CUT, CPL, HFC and level | Change one function at a time and compare |
Checks before the event
Save the starting configuration and record the subwoofer model before comparing. Use the common Y8/Y12 record to keep the same positions and test signal.
Record the observed result at each listening position.

This guide covers Line/Arc. ArrayProcessing, installation variants and rigging accessories require their own documentation and identification of the system. Check the manual for the subwoofer being used and measure the combined TOP and SUB response before choosing a correction.
