Questions and troubleshooting
The rider says Y8/Y12: can I prepare both cabinets with the same setup?
Prepare the setup for each model: Y8 Arc/Y8 Line for Y8 and Y12 Arc/Y12 Line for Y12. They are acoustically and mechanically compatible within a Y system, but have different nominal horizontal dispersion: Y8, 80°; Y12, 120°.
Check each cabinet label and the package list before assigning amplifier groups. Manual 1.3 lists D80, D40, D12, D20 and D6, with up to two cabinets per channel in Line/Arc. These are passive two-way cabinets: the manual specifies Dual Channel or Mix TOP/SUB, according to the intended path.
Nominal angles help select coverage; response changes with frequency. The manual shows −6 and −12 dB isobars and maintains nominal dispersion above 600 Hz. Do not turn 80° or 120° into a promise to cover an audience size. Splay angles define array curvature; they do not describe the vertical dispersion of a single cabinet.
- Record each cabinet model and position, channel, setup and connected count. Prepare the patch by model and setup; if a channel groups cabinets needing different configurations, revise the assignment before sending audio. Confirm the amplifier output mode as well.
- Both models use 1+/1− on NLT4/NL4; on EP5, 1 is positive and 2 negative. Check cabling with the amplifier off and the cable disconnected at both ends. The amplifier model and output mode must also match the path.
- Check the sides and front of each coverage section at agreed positions and with an agreed signal. If coverage is missing, check model, orientation and geometry before changing EQ. For flying or stacking, identify the accessory and consult its rigging manual.
- For heritage amplifiers, check the firmware release notes required by the current manufacturer page. The manual list retains the scope of its edition; it does not by itself confirm installed firmware or rack availability.
A Y8 array sounds different between sections: how do I check Line, Arc, CPL and HFC?
Compare each channel setup with the curvature it drives. The manual uses Line in long-throw sections with three or more consecutive splay settings of 0°, 1° or 2°, and Arc in curved sections. Both can be used in one array; the transition follows the splay progression and accounts for cabling in groups of up to two cabinets.
CPL compensates for array coupling and must have the same value across its cabinets. It starts gradually around 2 kHz, with greatest attenuation below 100 Hz; attenuation ranges from 0 to −9 dB. Positive values, from 0 to +5 dB, boost bass for full-range use without subwoofers.
HFC compensates for air absorption in Line/Arc setups. Manual 1.3 en defines HFC1 for 25 m and HFC2 for 50 m of additional distance from a reference position, at 40 % relative humidity and 22 °C. Lower humidity shortens the compensation distances. These values are not automatic thresholds measured from the stage.
- Save the starting state and compare plan, splay angles, cabling group, model and setup cabinet by cabinet. A section set to Line changes the mid/high response relative to Arc; select by geometry, not by channel letter.
- Compare CPL across all channels of the same array. If values differ, check the intended configuration before testing. With ArrayProcessing, the manual states that AP data already accounts for length and shape; this guide does not configure AP or prescribe another CPL value.
- Record the reference position, coverage areas and HFC1/HFC2 state per channel. If one section has more treble than its neighbour, compare HFC before touching EQ. Choose the check according to distance and conditions; do not enable HFC on every cabinet out of habit.
- Compare near, transition and far positions with the same signal and input level. Change one function at a time and record its effect. If the difference appears only at higher level, include limiter state and input signal in the diagnosis.
Identify Y8 and Y12 before preparing the patch
| Model | Nominal horizontal dispersion | Setup | Cabinets per channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Y8 | 80° | Y8 Arc / Y8 Line | Up to 2 |
| Y12 | 120° | Y12 Arc / Y12 Line | Up to 2 |
How to read HFC references
| Function | Additional distance | Published conditions |
|---|---|---|
| HFC1 | 25 m | 40 % RH; 22 °C |
| HFC2 | 50 m | 40 % RH; 22 °C |
Checks before the event
Record each cabinet and channel before changing configuration. The record compares model, splay angles, setup, CPL, HFC and results by area.
Complete the record after comparing the planned positions.

This guide covers Line/Arc. ArrayProcessing, installation variants and rigging accessories require their own documentation and identification of the system. Check the manual for the subwoofer being used and measure the combined TOP and SUB response before choosing a correction.
