Moss Main Stage: orchestra pit, linesets and fire curtain

At the Moss Center Main Stage, the pit position, acoustic shell and available linesets must be resolved on the same plan. A set that fits in plan can still interfere with elements moving above or below it.

Which Main Stage plan is needed before ticket sales?

The Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center is at 10950 SW 211 Street, Cutler Bay, Florida 33189, Miami-Dade. This guide covers the Main Stage and its specification revised 08/08/2026; do not use Black Box grid, console or seating data for this stage.

The space page lists 961 seats. The manual describes 36 seats on the pit in its usual position and an auditorium mixing position that may remove up to 35 seats. Obtain an accepted plan from Production and the box office combining both choices, cameras, accessibility and routes: do not calculate ticket inventory by separately adding or subtracting those figures.

Gala Systems pit: position, audience and equipment access

The pit platform can be at stage, audience or basement level. Its usual configuration is at audience level with rows AA and BB, totaling 36 seats. Define the position with the venue before assigning orchestra, camera, monitor or audience positions.

The lift is trapezoidal: 11 ft 2 in deep, 32 ft 9¼ in wide upstage and 30 ft 2¼ in downstage. The expanded basement area is described as 50 ft × 18 ft × 8 ft 10 in, including the platform. Do not treat it as the lift’s rectangular surface or load capacity.

Obtain final position, accepted load, access, edge protection and handover procedure from the authorized operator. The exact lift model and operating manual remain unidentified: no movement, interlock or occupied/loaded platform operation is prescribed here.

Access to the lower area includes stairs and a small stage-right freight elevator. Confirm that route’s dimensions and load capacity. The west dock has two 10 ft × 12 ft bays connected to the 80 ft × 60 ft scene shop; those dimensions do not guarantee passage to the pit. If a package does not fit, split equipment only as its manufacturer permits or choose another solution before dispatch.

Counterweight linesets: what to submit before adding LED or truss

The manual lists 69 manual single-purchase sets with 1.5 in Schedule 80 pipe battens, 60 ft long. It lists 1600 lb arbors and an inventory of 60000 lb of steel counterweights. These are different data: counterweight stock is not hanging capacity, and the arbor figure does not state spare capacity on an occupied batten.

Submit equipment, cable and accessory weights, positions, reactions, geometry and attachment method. Request accepted loads by batten and point, distribution limits, installed items and structural review. Do not infer availability from a blank schedule row or total batten width.

Configuration and balancing must remain with authorized venue personnel. No loading, locking or movement sequence is prescribed without the installation manual and procedure. If the design is not accepted, remove it or prepare a reviewed ground-supported alternative; that alternative is not automatically authorized.

Wenger Diva shell and projection: check reservations and conflicts

The acoustic shell has 9 towers and 4 ceiling pieces. Its linesets and the gaps required for movement constrain show rigging. Submit both operating position and intended travel in plan and section so Production can confirm availability.

The projection system is semi-fixed and the manual lists Barco G100 W22. Confirm screen, lens, beam path and accepted positions before checking content. Do not move projector, shell or screen to solve clipping without first reviewing conflicts and required labor.

9: PROJECTOR; 11: DEAD IF PROJ. USEDProjection affects availability; do not assign line 11 because no soft good is drawn there.

64: CYCLORAMA; 67: RP SCREENDifferent destinations. The projection system screen is on line 67.
EMPTY SPACE / NO HANG PIPEA diagram gap is not a point or batten for added equipment.

Before opening, check an image with borders and text from extreme seats on the accepted plan. If clipped, distinguish physical opening, masking and screen position before changing signal scaling. If a change requires moving scenic elements, stop that change and review the plan with Production. Save the accepted state to restore it.

Fire curtain: the FC plane must stay clear

The schedule distinguishes FC, Fire Curtain, from HC, House Curtain. The house curtain serves the show; it does not replace the fire curtain. The manual requires the latter’s plane to remain completely clear of anything preventing descent to the stage floor.

Mark that plane and travel in the setup section. Review scenery, risers, LED, cables, carpets, supports and mobile equipment in show and changeover positions. An item being clear only when stored is insufficient.

If a conflict appears, remove it from the design or obtain a reviewed solution before setup. System checks must follow venue procedure with authorized personnel; do not bypass controls or use the show curtain to simulate acceptance. Also confirm side exits, emergency access and circulation with the selected pit position.

Power and signals after pit or scenery changes

The manual lists three-phase cam-loc connections but does not give their voltage. Submit demand and location to the party authorizing distribution: nominal panel capacity does not establish available power or permit connection without review. Do not alter protective conductors to use the supply designated for audio.

Stage lighting control is listed as ETC Gio @5 and house lighting as Paradigm. Confirm files, versions and responsibilities for both systems; do not replace settings with Black Box configurations. Obtain a saved initial state before adjusting cues or routes.

Upstage left3 × 400 A.
Downstage left1 × 100 A plus another 1 × 100 A designated for audio.

Near-fills include loudspeakers at the stage edge and pit lift. After another position is accepted, check each destination with a known signal at a moderate level from front and side seating. If coverage changes, review routing and affected elements with the operator before copying delays or presets. The manual sets a maximum of 95 dBA; obtain the measurement location and method, which it does not detail.

For smoke, haze, lasers or pyrotechnics, identify model, manual and scope for separate review; inventory inclusion is not a permit. Separate legal or authority requirements, venue conditions, organizer conditions, contract or exclusive service, and technical checks. Confirm who installs, connects, operates, inspects and removes.

Agree on change and restoration time and costs: repositioning may incur additional labor. For an unaccepted revision, restore the last approved plan. At handover, authorized personnel must restore agreed soft goods, positions, files and routes, check floor and inventory and record acceptance. A room booking does not replace those approvals.

Frequently asked questions

Can I lower the pit and keep rows AA and BB on sale?

The manual places 36 seats in those rows on the platform at audience level. Changing position requires a revised sales plan with the venue and box office. Do not retain those tickets or calculate another capacity without acceptance of the new layout.

Does 1600 lb allow adding that weight to any batten?

The figure applies to the counterweight arbor and does not state additional capacity by point or batten. Submit complete weights, positions and reactions for venue confirmation of distribution and residual capacity. Balancing and movement remain with authorized personnel.

Are all 69 linesets available for the show?

No: the schedule assigns soft goods, electrics, projection and shell ceilings, plus maneuvering gaps. Obtain an accepted schedule for the specific setup and mark what moves during the program. A blank row does not prove availability.

Can I use line 11 when the screen is on 67?

The schedule conditions line 11 on projector use, not only the screen. Confirm projector, shell, travel and screen together with Production; do not remove that restriction because the screen is far from that batten.

Does the House Curtain perform the Fire Curtain function?

They are separate elements, HC and FC in the schedule. The FC descent plane must remain clear to the floor. If scenery, cabling or equipment interferes, correct the setup with the venue before opening; do not substitute a house-curtain cue for the required check.

Can I subtract 36 pit seats and 35 mixing seats to set capacity?

Those figures describe configurations, not an approved sales calculation. The mixing position may remove up to 35 seats, and the pit position changes other areas. Obtain the combined plan with FOH, cameras, accessibility and exits before issuing tickets.
