Display cases and product stands: dimensions, access and loading
Start a display case request with the product: its dimensions, weight, contact points and who needs access. Then compare the case’s interior space, opening and conditions of use. A lock also means agreeing who holds the keys and looks after the items.
One requirement can change the selection
IKEA states that the black BLÅLIDEN 005.205.19, 59 1/2 in high (about 151 cm), must be anchored because of tipping risk. It illustrates why appearance alone is insufficient when choosing an event display case.
If a model requires fixing, selecting it depends on resolving that condition with the manufacturer, supplier and venue. Do not alter hotel walls or finishes or propose improvised ballast. If the condition cannot be resolved, request another model documented for the intended use.
The object defines the useful space
Record the product’s width, depth, height and weight with any base or packaging to be displayed. Compare the complete item with the clear door opening and space between shelves. Also ask whether it can be removed and replaced without moving the other objects.
Ask the supplier to confirm the loading and contact conditions allowed for each surface of the offered model. If the specification does not define those conditions, resolve that question before confirming where the object will go.
Agree on access, care and delivery
Agree who holds the keys and who removes or restocks products. If valuables are displayed, decide who looks after them during the event. Include any lighting in the equipment and power request for the AV team to review.
Agree with the supplier how the case will arrive, how the glass is protected and how its condition is recorded at delivery. Report damage for assessment or replacement. Do not improvise a repair to put it into use.
Check shelf limits and the case’s condition
IKEA lists a 7 lb maximum per shelf for this US BLÅLIDEN (about 3.2 kg), alongside product safety conditions. This does not permit use without required anchoring or become a transport or floor-load rating.
Request the specification sheet for the model’s limits and record the delivered unit’s condition. These are separate checks: do not add shelf limits together or try to confirm capacity by loading the case as a test.
On narrow screens, scroll the table sideways. With a keyboard, use Tab to reach the table, then the arrow keys to scroll.
| Information | What to compare | Answer needed |
|---|---|---|
| Object and surface | The object’s weight and contact footprint against the limit and conditions for the exact surface. | Source, revision and supplier clarification if the conditions are undefined. |
| Delivered unit | Model and label; observed condition, date and person conducting the review. | Agreed assessment or replacement if an issue is reported. |
| Installation requirement | Manufacturer conditions against what the venue can accommodate. | A documented solution from the responsible parties or an alternative model. |
Start with the product you want to display
Send a photo and any product details you have, even if dimensions or weight are still missing. Identify what needs confirming; choosing a case requires checking those details against its documented limits and installation requirements.
- What are the date, city and venue?
- What product or object will be displayed, for what purpose, and which photos can you share?
- Which dimensions and stated weight do you know, in what units and from which source?
- Does the object have its own base or support, and how does it rest on the surface?
- Who may handle or remove it, will restocking be needed, and who will hold any keys?
- What lighting, screen or demonstration will accompany the product?
- Do you have a photo of the space, a sketch or case specification sheets to compare?
- Are you looking for rental, purchase or coordination with your supplier, and what delivery, installation and pickup support do you need?

Frequently asked questions
Does a locked case prevent theft?
A lock does not guarantee theft protection. Agree who holds the keys, when the case is opened and who looks after the objects during the event.
Which dimensions do I need to check whether my product fits in the case?
Send the supplier the dimensions of the complete object as it will be displayed. Request usable shelf clearances and the dimensions of the opening it must pass through. Check both the display position and how the object goes in and out; the case’s outside dimensions are not enough.
Can ballast replace a required anchor?
Do not improvise that modification. If the venue cannot resolve a model’s required condition, request a documented alternative for review.
Should the product information include its base or packaging?
Yes, if they will be displayed with it. State the dimensions and weight of the complete item that will sit on the shelf, and describe its contact points. Explain removal and restocking so the supplier can review usable space and the opening.
Video and audio for this space
If the exhibit combines a product and on-screen content, explain how they will be presented together.

Show us the product you want to display
Start with a product photo and available dimensions, plus the date and venue. Tell us who may handle or remove it and whether a display or demonstration will accompany it. If you are already comparing cases, include their models or specification sheets.
