Tallahassee Tucker Civic Center: production rigging, power and permits
Donald L. Tucker Civic Center is at 505 West Pensacola Street in the City of Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida. The 2026 Promoter Guide identifies Oak View Group as operator and manager. Separate arena, backstage and meeting rooms: this guide uses the published arena data.
Where can points for a suspended LED display be proposed?
Page 29 places east–west beams on 30 ft centers, with rigging steel 87 ft above the floor. The central north–south beam cannot be used for rigging. Mark beams and points on the current drawing; do not select the central beam simply to align the display.
Submit complete LED, hanging-bar, truss, motor, cable and accessory weights, positions and calculated reactions per point and beam. Published maximums do not guarantee availability or allow points to be added without reviewing their shared beam. Obtain plot, obstruction and trim-height acceptance; after a weight or position change, hold that revision and return to a scope that remains approved.
| Arena data | Scope |
|---|---|
| East–west beam | Published maximum 20,000 lb per beam |
| Point | Published maximum 5,000 lb per point |
| Central north–south beam | Cannot be used for rigging |
Will the LED fit through the dock and leave room with seating extended?
Page 25 places the loading dock off W. Madison Street at the southwest corner, through a 16 ft × 15 ft door. Confirm orientation, usable clearance, curtain and package route. The Promoter Information page requires advance coordination above 14 ft loading height and warns of only 6 ft 10 in passage from the alternate backstage entrance. Do not treat that door as equivalent to direct access.
Page 6 gives 206 ft × 86 ft with retractable seating pushed in and 147 ft × 67 ft with seating extended. Place stage, LED, control, barricades, audience and exits on that configuration. Published capacities exclude production kills and mix positions; obtain an accepted layout and occupancy. Floor, support and vehicle-route loads require specific data; roof limits are not floor limits.
Which power and audio/video connections should be prepared?
Page 26 locates show power at the southwest corner below Section 105: one 600 A service, one 400 A service and two 200 A services, all 208 V and five wire. It adds one 200 A, 208 V, five-wire service in the northwest hallway; connections are Cam-Lok. No shore power is offered. Confirm assigned availability, phases, pinout, protection, cables and connection personnel; do not add the services as guaranteed show capacity.
Advance house sound or video use with the Event Manager. Page 27 places XLR at southwest and center-west vomitories and SDI tie-ins at center-west and northeast. Sound and ribbon/corner-board controls are in the Arena Sound Booth at Section 101; the center-hung is controlled by TriCaster below that booth. Agree on format and patch before a signal check; on mismatch, check input, destination and configuration and restore the approved patch.
Who coordinates labor and pyrotechnics?
Page 29 states that OVG has an IATSE contract: all labor needs go through the Event Manager and facility. Submit duties, times and scope for rigging, electricity, loading and operation; confirm each team’s responsibilities and calls. Bringing equipment does not establish a labor exception or rate.
Page 30 requires pyrotechnic submission 30 calendar days ahead: detonation plot and fallout radius, owner affidavit, state-facility authorization, permit application, product description and running order, schedule and location. It requires a certified Fire Watch representative during an event. FSU policy 4-OP-G-8 identifies the Florida State Fire Marshal as AHJ and EH&S as responsible for facility safety. Coordinate that route; submission is not an issued permit.
For haze or lasers, identify equipment, class, product, positions, audience and schedule, and obtain the specific process from the venue and FSU safety. Do not apply the pyrotechnic deadline to another effect or treat a patron laser-pointer ban as production approval. Without applicable approval, use the show without the effect; do not alter alarms.
Which insurance and documents are needed before first move-in?
Page 31 requires insurance evidence at least 30 days before the Term begins, which may include setup. It lists minimum commercial general liability of USD 1,000,000 and commercial auto of USD 500,000 per accident, plus workers’ compensation and insurers rated at least A VIII. It names Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, Global Spectrum, L.P. and Florida State University as additional insureds. Confirm names, endorsements and scope in the contract; the OVG brand does not authorize changing a certificate’s legal entity yourself.
Before changing equipment, points, power or effects, submit the revision to the Event Manager and affected reviewers. Keep the earlier plan identified and restore it only if still accepted for the event. Obtain current quotes for labor, rigging, electricity, standby and inspections; the guide does not establish a universal rate here.
Frequently asked questions
Can the central beam be used if each motor stays below 5,000 lb?
No. The north–south beam prohibition is independent of the per-point maximum. Relocate to permitted points and submit the revised distribution; do not spread motors along a prohibited beam.
Does the seating chart allow every listed seat to be sold?
Not automatically. The 2026 Promoter Guide warns that capacities exclude production kills and mix positions. Include LED, sound, control, barricades and sightlines in the reviewed configuration before establishing available seats.
Is insurance due 30 days before the public show date?
Evidence is due 30 days before the contractual Term begins. If setup starts that Term, use that reference date. Confirm coverage for move-in, rehearsal, show and load-out, plus endorsements and additional insureds.
Does a pyrotechnic permit also approve rigging and lasers?
No. The pyrotechnic application, structural plot, electrical connection and authorization of each effect have separate scopes. Check each approval against the equipment, space and revision actually used.

Venue conditions and deadlines refer to the linked documents. Confirm the applicable revision and event addenda; a booking or service order does not replace technical approval or authority permits.
